Teak Furniture Material Guide

What is Teak material?

Teak, also known as "Tectona grandis", is regarded as the premier hardwood for luxury outdoor furnishings. Its enduring popularity is rooted in the timber’s high concentration of natural oils, a tightly packed grain, and inherent resistance to the rigors of outdoor life. The oils provide immunity to rot, insects, and decay, so the material continues to stand the test of time. Initially, teak is a warm golden-brown, but in the absence of surface treatments, it gradually adopts a distinguished silver-gray as it matures under the sun.

How to care for the material

Regular Cleaning: Simply run a soft brush or a damp microfiber cloth along the surface to lift dust and table crumbs. For a more thorough cleansing, mix a few drops of gentle dish soap in warm water and wipe. Rinse with fresh water and dry promptly.

Retaining Color vs. Allowing Patina: If the goal is to preserve the warm hues, a single annual application of teak sealer will do the trick. If you admire the evolving silver-gray, simply skip the sealer and let time do the rest.

Spill & Stain Management: Treat a spill as soon as it happens with warm, soapy water. For stains that resist cleaning, a gentle sanding with fine-grit paper will refresh the surface without the need for chemical cleaners.

Avoid Harsh Conditions: To shield the furniture from the worst of winter or relentless summer UV rays, invest in quality fitted covers, or simply store the pieces in a dry, protected location.

Inspect & Maintain: Every few months, peer at the underside of the table to ensure that the screws and fastenings remain snug, and lightly sand any tiny raised grain that might have appeared. A little preventive care will ensure that the teak continues to be the centerpiece of the patio for decades.
