The Ultimate Outdoor Furniture Care Guide: How to Maintain Teak, Aluminum, Wicker & More

Caring for Grade-A Teak Outdoor Furniture

Initial Use:
Before using your new Grade-A Teak furniture, it’s important to wipe it down with a damp cloth. This helps remove any natural oils that may surface. Avoid placing cushions or sitting on the furniture until this step is complete.

Routine Maintenance:
Grade-A teak is renowned for its durability and the elegant silver-gray patina it develops over time. Regular care enhances its longevity:

  • Seasonal Cleaning: Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose or power washer to remove dust and debris. Allow the furniture to dry completely before use.
  • Weather Considerations: As teak is a natural material, it expands and contracts with temperature fluctuations, sometimes resulting in small cracks. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect structural integrity.
  • Maintaining the Golden Hue: If you prefer to preserve teak’s original warm tones, lightly sand the surface using 220-grit sandpaper, following the grain. Apply a high-quality teak sealer for protection and let it dry thoroughly.

For added protection, we recommend using outdoor furniture covers when not in use.

Caring for Weathered Teak Furniture

Over time, teak naturally weathers to a distinguished silvery-gray patina. To maintain its appearance and ensure longevity:

  • Regular Cleaning: Rinse with a garden hose or power washer to remove dirt and debris. Allow the furniture to dry completely before use.
  • Natural Expansion & Contraction: Hairline cracks may appear due to changes in temperature and humidity, but these do not compromise the strength of the furniture.

Protect your weathered teak and Sunbrella® cushions by covering your furniture when not in use.

Caring for Powder-Coated Aluminum Furniture

Our powder-coated aluminum is designed to endure even the harshest climates with minimal upkeep.

Cleaning Instructions:

  1. Rinse with a garden hose or power washer to remove surface debris.
  2. Prepare a mild soap and water solution (avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the finish).
  3. Gently scrub with a soft brush or sponge. For stubborn spots, a stiff-bristle brush or power washer can be used.
  4. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before use.

For additional protection, apply a light coat of automotive wax after cleaning to enhance resistance to the elements.

To minimize maintenance, we recommend covering your aluminum furniture when not in use.

Caring for Wicker Outdoor Furniture

Our handwoven, all-weather wicker and rattan furniture is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), offering superior durability compared to traditional materials.

Cleaning Instructions:

  1. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.
  2. Use a soft brush and mild soap solution (such as Dawn®) to gently clean between the weaves.
  3. Rinse well and allow to air dry before use.

For long-lasting beauty, cover your wicker furniture when not in use.

Caring for All-Weather Rope Furniture

Our all-weather rope furniture is expertly handwoven over powder-coated aluminum frames for a lightweight yet durable design.

Cleaning Instructions:

  • Use a soft cloth or brush to remove dust and debris.
  • If a deeper clean is needed, rinse with a garden hose and clean with a mild soap solution.
  • Allow the furniture to air dry fully before use.

To maintain the pristine condition of your rope furniture, we recommend using outdoor covers when not in use.

Caring for Sunbrella® Outdoor Cushions

We proudly offer 100% Sunbrella® cushions, a market leader in outdoor fabrics. Sunbrella® is engineered for:

Mold and mildew resistance
UV and fade protection
Stain and water resistance

Routine Care:

  • Remove dirt and debris with a soft-bristle brush.
  • After heavy rain, stand cushions on their sides to accelerate water drainage.

Deep Cleaning Instructions:

  1. Place cushions on a clean, dry surface.
  2. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose or power washer.
  3. Apply a diluted bleach solution (1 part bleach to 20 parts water) to remove deep-set stains and mildew. (Sunbrella® fabric will not lose color from bleach use.)
  4. Rinse well and allow to dry completely before use. For best results, stand cushions on their side to ensure even drying.

To extend the life of your Sunbrella® cushions, store or cover them when not in use.
